Students Orchestra team’s volunteer work (PDF newsletter)
Last Sunday, Bflat, a volunteer-driven orchestra group of high school students eager to share Korean cultures through music, performed at Brookdale Assisted Home at Northville.
During a 30-minute long performance, Bflat started by playing old pop music, such as Amazing Grace, and wrapped up their show with 홀로아리랑 (Holo-Arirang).
The roughly 25-30 people big audience group cheered, enjoyed, and appreciated Bflat’s performance.
“Bflat is a volunteer organization that started before COVID years,” Doyeon Kim, one of the longest-serving members, explained. “It was tough during COVID because we didn’t get to meet and do something as a group.”
Asked when was the moment she felt the proudest of, Doyeon said, “When audience members learn about Korean culture and the meaning behind the tune, it feels great. Carrousel of Nations, for example, we represented Korea at the event, and it was very proud.”
“Our main goal is to keep showing Korean culture and have everyone enjoy what it’s like, not only through traditional music but also through K-pop. On top of everything, we would like to enjoy what we are doing.” Doyeon stated when she was asked about future goals.
