Record-breaking Participation at the Annual Cultural Center Golf Tournament
In celebration of the 21st anniversary of the Korean Cultural Center in Michigan, an annual golf event was held at the Tanglewood Golf Club in South Lyon on Sunday, August 20th, to raise funds for the development of the Korean Cultural Center. This year, in particular, despite the scorching weather nearing 90 degrees Fahrenheit, a record-breaking 87 golfers participated— the highest number ever. Nearly 100 individuals gathered, including attendees of the evening banquet and dedicated volunteers, to share a meaningful time with family and friends. The event held great significance.
Chief Director Mi-Kyung Dang of the Korean Cultural Center in Michigan extends a special note of appreciation to Directors Dae-Ho Kim and Hyeon-Joo Shin. They collaborated tirelessly from the event’s inception to its culmination, overseeing participant registrations and team coordination. Alongside them, Chief Board Byung-jun Kim, former Chief Board Do-Seung Yoon, Vice Chief Board Kim Sun-ja, Director Lee Byeong-soo, Suh Gyun-ho for inviting most of the tournament participants and Director Hwang Gyu-cheon, who assisted in managing the golf tournament Score results, all deserve recognition. Moreover, heartfelt thanks are conveyed to all participants and volunteers who contributed, including Kwon Hyeon-ja, responsible for reception registration and banquet support; Baek-gongju, who managed the golf tournament team photo shoot and on-site assistance; Yun Bora, for her contributions to on-site support and public relations efforts; Kim Jin-seong, who played a key role in both on-site activities and public relations support; and others. Their collective efforts were instrumental in the success of the event.
Golf Tournament Results and Awards
After the games, participants gathered at the reception venue to enjoy an evening meal and celebrate the tournament’s results and raffle drawings. The prizes, including various food ingredients sponsored by 168 Asian Mart and products from ATOMI, were presented to the winning teams. In the men’s division, two teams tied for the lead with a score of 7-under-par (65 strokes), while in the women’s division, the first and second-place teams finished with scores of 6-under-pars and 2-under-par, respectively. The family-mixed senior division was won by the team of Myung Jong Song with a score of 6-under-par. While the Hole-in-One prize of $1,000 from Sura Steakhouse went unclaimed, other awards like Longest Drive and Closest to the Pin were given. The furthest-traveled golfer award was presented to Chris, who journeyed from Dayton, Ohio, and the oldest participant award was given to accountant Hong Sun Baek, who shone even at the age of 90.
Raffle Drawings and Fundraising
In the follow-up raffle drawing, various golf items such as the Distance Finder and Travel Bag, which were carefully prepared for the event, were given away. Additionally, five paintings donated by Board of Director Byung Joon Kim and a painting by a young artist, donated by Chief Director of center MiKeong Dang, were also presented. The raffle ticket sales, contributing to a 50:50 fund draw, utilized a format where one winner takes all. While Mrs. Soeunhee, the wife of the director of Suyong General Hospital, was initially drawn as the winner, she graciously donated her winnings to the cultural center, earning warm applause from the audience for her heartwarming gesture.
